Taekwondo mats are mainly divided into the following categories: standard competition mats, which are professional mats used in international competitions and most training venues; training mats, such as foam and rubber mats, for daily training and practice; and children’s mats, which are generally softer and thicker to ensure child safety.
1. Standard Competition Mat
Features: This mat is designated for use in competition venues by professional organizations such as the International Taekwondo Federation (WTF). It offers excellent cushioning, elasticity, and slip resistance, effectively protecting athletes during competition.
Material: Typically made of high-density EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) or PVC (polyvinyl chloride), with a textured surface for increased friction.
Use: Primarily used in formal Taekwondo competitions and high-level professional training.
2. Training Mat
Features: A wide variety of mats are available, suitable for different training levels.
Material and Type:
Foam Mat: Common EVA foam mats are lightweight and easy to assemble, making them suitable for home use or small training venues. Rubber mats: Offers improved shock absorption and wear resistance, commonly found in combat training venues.
Tatami mats: Mimic the texture of Japanese kendo mats, offering excellent non-slip properties and cushioning.
Application: Suitable for daily technical training, basic exercises, strength training, etc.
3.Kids’ Mats
Features:
Designed specifically for children, they are typically thicker and softer than adult mats, providing a higher level of safety and protection.
Material:
Mostly made of non-toxic, environmentally friendly EVA or XPE (cross-linked polyethylene), with a smooth, burr-free surface.
Applications:
Primarily used in children’s Taekwondo gyms, early childhood education institutions, or family play areas to reduce the risk of injury to children during exercise.
