The standard size of judo mats is divided into the overall size of the competition venue and the size of individual mats according to different usage scenarios. The competition venue is usually 14 meters by 14 meters to 18 meters by 18 meters, and the common size of individual mats is 2 meters by 1 meter or 1 meter by 1 meter.
Overall dimensions of the competition venue
According to the standards of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and official Chinese sports organizations, the overall size of judo competition venues must meet the following requirements:
Minimum area: 16 meters x 16 meters (as stated in the procurement announcement for the 2018 Hong Kong Provincial Games), or 14 meters x 14 meters (standard site splicing scheme provided by the manufacturer)
Maximum area: 18 meters x 18 meters (according to the standards of the Hangzhou Asian Games in China)
Partition design:
Competition area: 8 meters x 8 meters to 10 meters x 10 meters, usually using yellow mats.
Safe zone: At least 4 meters wide, with red, green, and blue mats commonly used.
Specification of single cushion
The common sizes of single judo mats used for splicing competition venues are:
Mainstream specifications: 2 meters x 1 meter (length x width), thickness 4-6 centimeters, mostly made of PVC leather or rolled leather with high-density sponge.
Other sizes: 1 meter x 1 meter square pad for flexible combination.
Thickness selection:
Training pad: usually 4-5 centimeters.
Competition mat: It needs to be at least 5 centimeters, with some requiring 0.5 centimeters (such as compressed sponge core).
Material and color
Surface: Anti slip grass mat pattern leather or PU leather, enhancing friction and durability.
Inner layer: high-density compressed sponge (180-230 times compression ratio) or EVA foam material.
Color: The competition area is yellow, and the safety area is a prominent color scheme such as red, blue, green, etc.
