Its strict technical regulations require CE certification and affixing the CE mark. This serves as the product’s “passport” to enter the EU market.

The following are the main certificates and steps you need to prepare and apply for:

1. Core Compulsory Certification: CE Certification(which we already got. )

CE certification indicates that your product complies with EU health, safety, and environmental standards. For sports mats like Taekwondo mats, the following directives and standards are primarily covered:

1. REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006
· Content: This regulation governs the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals. It restricts the use of hazardous chemicals (such as certain plasticizers and heavy metals) in products.
· Requirements: You must ensure that the materials used in the mat (such as PVC, EVA, rubber, surface coatings, printing inks, etc.) do not contain substances of very high concern (SVHCs) restricted in Annex XVII of the REACH Regulation. Chemical testing of the product by a third-party testing laboratory is typically required, and a REACH compliance test report is issued. 2. EN 71-3 Safety of Toys – Part 3: Migration of Certain Elements
· Content: Although taekwondo mats are not toys, if their design, color, or size may be attractive to children, EU customs and market surveillance authorities may invoke this standard to require them to meet toy safety requirements, particularly to prevent children from being exposed to hazardous heavy metals (such as lead and cadmium).
· Requirements: Conducting EN 71-3 testing and obtaining a report is an effective way to demonstrate the safety of your product for children and is highly recommended.
3. Physical and Mechanical Performance Standards
· Content: While there is no mandatory harmonized standard specifically for taekwondo mats, products must meet the EU General Product Safety Directive (GPSD, 2001/95/EC). This means that the product must not present potential hazards from design or manufacture (e.g., sharp edges, small parts that may detach and pose a choking hazard, inadequate anti-slip properties, etc.). Recommendation: You can refer to relevant sports mat standards (such as EN 12503 sports mat series standards) for testing to prove that its physical properties such as cushioning, anti-slip, and wear resistance are safe and reliable.
